Lay Ministry Counselor
The training to become a Lay Ministry Counselor will build upon the training that you received as a Lay Ministry Associate. It will include 20 hours of additional training that will be more in depth on subjects dealing with communication, confidentiality, grief, depression, etc. This initial training will enable you, once you have completed the course, to minister to the needs of a fellow brother or sister in Christ, or a community person, in a one-on-one manner, in addition to those opportunities as a Lay Ministry Associate. It will also give you the tools to help them as they heal. This ministry will impact you as well, for as C.S. Lewis wrote, “Do not imagine that if you meet a really humble man he will be what most people call ‘humble nowadays: he will not be a sort of greasy, smarmy person, who is always telling you that, of course, he is a nobody. Probably all you will think about him is that he seemed a cheerful, intelligent chap who took a real interest in what you said to him.” You humble yourself in listening to their needs and providing a framework upon which they can build their healing.
